COVID Antibody Cocktail Launched In India; Know What Is It And How Will It Work?

Pharmaceutical company Roche India has launched its antibody cocktail in India. A dose of this antibiotic cocktail consistingof Casirivimab and Imdevimab will cost 60 thousand rupees in India. Last year, during Corona treatment of former US President Donald Trump, this drug was given to him. Experts say that about 70 percent of people who need hospitalization will be saved from this antibody.

What is this antibody cocktail?

 This drug can be called a mixture of a compound.An antibodycocktail isa mixture of two antibodies that have the same effect on a virus. This cocktail antibody-drug contains a mixture of antibodies that have a similar effect on the coronavirus. Antibody-drug cocktails Casirivimab and Imdevimab have been developed by Swiss company Roche together with Regeneron. In India, it partnered with Cipla for its marketing.

For which patients this drug will be beneficial?

 This antibody cocktail can be used to treat adults, children and adolescents, or simply it can be used to treat patients older than 12 years. Provided that their weight is at least 40kg.

Patients who have mild, moderate or severe symptoms have been confirmed to be infected with SARS-COV-2, but do not require oxygen. For such patients, this cocktail drug made by Roche may work.

What are the benefits of using this medicine?

 Antibody cocktails Casirivimab and Imdevimab can play an important role in the treatment of corona patients before the condition gets worse. This drug is especially useful for patients with mild and moderate symptoms.This medicine prevents patients from falling critically ill. It is claimed that this medicine will reduce the dependence on oxygen for such patients.

Its approval

This drug was approved in early May for Emergency Use in India. It has received approval from the Central Drugs Standards Control Organization (CDSCO) based on data provided for emergency use in the US and the European Union.

Cost of this cocktail

Roche India said- Every dose of 1200 mg has 600 mg Casirivimab and 600 mg Imdevimab. The price of each dose will be Rs 59,750. Its multidose packet will have a maximum cost of Rs 1.19 lakh.  Marketing of this antibody cocktail is being carried out by Cipla.

1 lakh packets will be available in India by June

 Roche and Cipla said that the first dose of the drug had arrived in India. Its second batch will arrive by June 15. By June, its 1 lakh packets will be in India and about 2 lakh people will get treatment from this medicine. These drugs will be provided to large hospitals and COVID centres.
