World’s thinnest material with latest technique Researchers at Indian Institute of technology, Gandhinagar, have developed a material that is about 100,000 times thinner than a sheet of paper. This two dimensional material is of one nanometer in thickness. It can be used in wide range of applications including its use in the next generation batteries.

A new tool for screening Autism One of the reasons for increasing number of Autism cases is misdiagnosis of Autism. It is often diagnosed as mental retardation or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Although India is an agrarian country but there is lack of awareness among the farmers about the right farming practice. They often use pesticides in their farm without wearing any kind of protective gear. This led the farmers exposed to the toxicity of the pesticides which ultimately affects their health at some point of time. Hence, to provide the healthy way of spraying pesticides a protective gel—poly-Oxime has been developed by Scientists at Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine, Bangalore. This gel is capable of breaking the harmful toxic substances into the safe substance. Thus, when this gel is applied on the skin before spraying pesticides, it prevents the skin to absorb the toxic pesticides and protect the farmers.

Discoveries to tackle Zika virus, dengue, JE and chikungunya A number of deaths are reported in the country due to Zika virus, dengue, JE and chikungunya. Thus certain discoveries in 2018 by Indian Scientists can help in preventing the deaths due to the mentioned reasons. Researchers have discovered that envelop protein of Zika virus affects proliferation rates of human neural stem cells. It promotes premature but faulty neuron formation.

In another discovery, the key protein responsible for the replication of dengue and Japanese Encephalitis has been identified. Biosensor using molybdenum disulphide nanosheets jas been discovered to easily detect chikungunya.
