An FIR was logged in Sector 58- Noida against e-commerce giant Amazon for hurting Hindu sentiments by selling products like rugs and toilet seat covers that have the images of the Hindu Gods on its US website. Vikram Mishra has allegedly file an FIR against Amazon under Section 153A of the Indian Penal Code which says that promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, residence, place of birth, language, etc and doing acts is prejudicial to maintenance of harmony. This is disrespect to Hindus and their religion.

Allegations on Amazon
According to Vikram Mishra, this e-commerce player time to time puts such items on for sale on its website which hurts the Hindu sentiments. He said that this can infuse communal tensions at anytime in the country hence he wants that quick and stringent actions should be taken against Amazon so that no such incident can be repeated in future. This will also helps in protecting the sentiments of the Hindus and maintain the self respect of their religion.

Before this in 2017, Indian external affair minister Sushma Swaraj had also reported against Amazon for selling the flip-flops with the image of Mahatma Gandhi and selling doormats with the prints of Indian flag. So this was not the first time when the company was accused of allegedly selling the products that affects the sentiments of Hindus. Circle officer of Noida, Piyush Kumar Singh that the FIR is registered and the matter is into probe.

Statements from Amazon’s Spokesperson
“Boycott Amazon” is an online campaign that had started by some social media users after the incident came into limelight. The spokesperson of Amazon reported that strict actions will be taken against those sellers who do not comply on the guidelines to sell the products on Amazon. He said that the accounts of all those sellers, who do not comply on the company’s selling guidelines, will be removed. He also added that all those products which were questioned are being removed from the website.
