Facts of the Constitution

Republic Day is the day to remember because it is the day when India got its democratic rights after the constitution of India came into force.

We all know that India gained its freedom from British rule on 15th August 1947 and that night our Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru gave his famous speech “Tryst With Destiny” but with that Independence, India did not get its democratic rights. But after 2 and half years of Independence on 26th January 1950, the Indian Constitution came into force which makes our country the largest democratic country in the world. And on this day India declared as a Sovereign, Secular, Democratic, and Republic.

So, to honor this day, people of India celebrate republic day every year on 26th January.

History and the Importance of Republic Day

Through the monumental Indian Independence Act, 1947, India got its Independence, an Act of the United Kingdom’s Parliament due to which India divided into two parts. After getting Independence, India was still under the Constitutional Monarchy of King George VI and Early Mountbatten, then Governor-General Of  India. And it was because India did not have its own constitution at that time.
