  • Lewis Hamilton has become the first Formula One (F1) driver to win 100 races, after finishing first at the 2021 Russian Grand Prix to regain the championship lead from Max Verstappen.  Hamilton converted Verstappen’s five-point lead into a two-point lead of his own. Hamilton had slipped to 07th place but he overtook Lando Norris.
  • Team India’s archers won three silver medals at the World Archery Championships held in Yankton, South Dakota, United States. 3 silver medals were won in the women’s compound individual, women’s compound team and compound mixed team competitions. With this, Vennam Jyothi Surekha became the first Indian woman archer to win three silver medals at the World Championships. The 25-year-old achieved this feat after winning medals in each of the three categories.
  •  India’s Sania Mirza and her Chinese partner Zhang Shuai won the women’s doubles title in the women’s doubles final at the Ostrava Open in Ostrava, Czech Republic.  The second-seeded Indo-Chinese pair defeated third-seeded American Kaitlyn Christian and New Zealand’s Erin Routliffe.
  • Rohit Sharma became the first batsman in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to score 1000 runs against any team. The 34-year-old achieved the feat in the fourth over of MI’s innings. Rohit now has 1015 runs against KKR at an average of 46.13 and a strike rate of 132.16, including six 50s and one century.

  • The International Cricket Council has launched the official anthem of the upcoming T20 World Cup.  The song, composed by Bollywood music director Amit Trivedi, is an animated film featuring young fans from around the world engaged in T20 cricket and some of the biggest superstars of the game.
  • The Indian men’s table tennis team won a bronze medal at the Asian Table Tennis Championships in Doha, Qatar after losing 0-3 to South Korea in the semi-finals. The Indian team was assured of a medal after beating Iran 3-1 in the quarter-finals. Both the semi-finalists took bronze medals. This is India’s second medal at the Asian Championships after 1976.

  • Smriti Mandhana became the first Indian woman to score a Test century on Australian soil. She completed her century, shaping India’s first innings on the second day of the maiden pink-ball match. Mandhana scored 127 runs with the help of 22 fours and one six.
  • Delhi-based 14-year-old shooter Namya Kapoor has become India’s youngest player to win gold in the ISSF Junior World Cup. This was Namya’s first international tournament.  She won the gold medal in her debut tournament 25m sports pistol, while Manu Bhakhar, who represented India at the Tokyo Olympics, won the bronze medal. Namya scored 36 in the final, while France’s Camille J scored 33 for the silver and Manu Bhaker scored 31 for the bronze. Namya had finished sixth in the qualification, while Bhakhar and Sangwan were the first two. At the same time, Manu won gold in 10 meter air pistol and women in mixed.
  • The Indian hockey team withdrew from the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. Due to the situation of COVID in Britain and the rules of Quarantine, the Indian team has taken this decision. There is a mandatory 10-day quarantine for any outsider in the UK. Hockey India has also issued a statement regarding this. Statement reads, “Britain is the only country in Europe which is badly affected by Corona.  Our priority is the Asian Games. It is going to be organized in Hangzhou, China in 2022 itself. The Asian Games will enable players to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.”  Hockey India President Gyanendro Ningobam has also conveyed his decision to Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President Narinder Batra.
  • Date of Pro Kabaddi League season 8 has been announced. The league will start from December 22, with the first match being played in Bangalore. 12 teams will participate in the league between which many exciting matches are expected. Notably, in PKL 2021 spectators will not be allowed on the field during the match. This league is being organized after two years.
