  • India has beaten England by four wickets to win a record fifth title of the U19 world cup. Earlier, India won the trophy in 2000, 2008, 2012, 2018. Yash Dhul has become the fifth Indian captain after Mohammad Kaif, Virat Kohli, Unmukt Chand and Prithvi Shaw to win the title. In the finals, England won the toss and opted to bat, but India put a break on their innings at 189 in 44.5 overs. India chased down the target of 190 runs with 2.2 overs remaining. At the same time, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a reward for the players and support staff of Team India, who won the title. All the players will get 40-40 lakh rupees. At the same time, Rs 25 lakh will also be given to the sports staff. This was announced by BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah on social media.
  • Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly laid the foundation stone of the world’s third-largest cricket stadium in Jaipur. The International Cricket Stadium of Jaipur will be the second-largest cricket stadium in India and the third-largest in the world. A new international stadium will be built by Rajasthan Cricket Academy (RCA) on the Jaipur-Delhi bypass on more than 100 acres of land in Jaipur. The stadium will have a seating capacity of 75,000 spectators.
  • The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has approved a proposal to include surfing, skateboarding and sport climbing for the 2028 Summer Olympic Games which will be held in Los Angeles, United States. The 2028 Summer Olympics officially known as the Games of the XXXIV Olympiad or Los Angeles 2028 is an upcoming event scheduled to take place from July 21 to August 6, 2028, in Los Angeles, California, US.
  • China beat South Korea 3-2 to win the final of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. This is the record 9th AFC Women’s Asian Cup title won by China. India was hosting the 20th edition of the Football AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022 from January 20, 2022, to February 06, 2022. China is now qualifying for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be held in Australia and New Zealand.

  • Gujarat Titans is the official name of the new Ahmedabad franchise owned by CVC Capital. Hardik Pandya has been chosen to lead the franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The name of the Ahmedabad franchise comes days after RPSG Group-owned Lucknow announced its official name as Lucknow Super Giants. The Lucknow team will be led by KL Rahul.
  • Team India defeated West Indies by 96 runs in the third and final ODI and made a clean sweep in the 3-match ODI series. West Indies had a target of 266 runs in the match, in response to which the team could only score 169 runs in 37.1 overs and lost the match.  Odeon Smith (36) was the top scorer. Team India made a clean sweep against the West Indies in the ODI series for the first time in 1983, since then India could not clean sweep against WI in the 50 over format even once, but under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, the team also created history for the first time in 39 years. Although West Indies have done clean sweep against Team India 3 times.
  • The Winter Olympics started on February 4, in Beijing, the capital of China. India is diplomatically boycotting the event. Only one athlete from India is participating in the Beijing Winter Olympics. Mohammad Arif Khan, a resident of Kashmir, is representing the country in two events this time.  Arif will compete in Slalom and Giant Slalom.
  • Delhi High Court’s has suspended the Table Tennis Federation of India following the petition Commonwealth gold winner Manika Batra. Manika says that ill-treatment from TTFI forced her to take the legal route. Manika recently broke into the top-50 of world rankings. She filed a petition after she was dropped from the team for the Asian Championships. TTFI did not include her as Manika had not attended the national camp before the event.

  • A total of 204 players were bought in the mega auction of IPL which lasted for two days. Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai and Punjab have filled the maximum quota of 25 players each. The team of Lucknow taken only 21 players.  In other teams, Gujarat and Sunrisers Hyderabad inducted 23-23 players, Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals bought 24 players each and Royal Challengers Bangalore made a team of 22 players. Each team already had 2 to 4 players as retained stars before the auction.
  • The government has decided to continue the scheme of ‘Khelo India  National Program for the Development of Sports’ from the 15th Finance Commission cycle 2021-22 to 2025-26 at an outlay of Rs 3165.50 crore. The Khelo India scheme allocation has increased by 48 percent in Budget 2022 and has been included in the Prime Minister’s Award Scheme. Khelo India scheme is the flagship central sector scheme of the Ministry of Sports. It aims to promote sports ecosystem in the country and achieve excellence, enabling the masses to harness the power of sport through its cross-cutting effect.
