Religion is an integral part of the culture of India. It is no wonder that India has the largest number of temples.  Here for centuries, the idols are considered to be the medium of devotion and love of God. The Indian people have unwavering faith and trust in these idols.

A variety of idols are found in India. Some idols are so small that people keep them in small boxes and keep them in pockets as auspicious items.  On the other hand, some idols are so huge, which can be seen from miles away. Today, we will tell you about some such huge idols in India.

Statue of Unity, Gujarat

 Due to the greatness of Sardar Patel, a very giant, beautiful and grand statue of ‘Indian Bismarck’ has been built on the banks of river Narmada in a memorable form, which has been named as Statue of Unity. This statue is situated at a distance of 3.5 km from Sardar Sarovar Dam on river Narmada. This is the tallest statue in the world with a height of 183 meters.

Statue of Equality

The Statue of Equality is located in Muchintal, Telangana. It is dedicated to the 11th-century Vaishnavaite Saint Bhagavad Ramanuja, commemorating 1000 years since his birth. This second tallest statue was inaugurated in 2019. The sittingstatue is 65.8 meters high.

Veer Abhay Anjaneya Swamy, Andhra Pradesh

The idol of Veer Abhay Anjaneya Swami is a giant statue of the greatest devotee of Rama, Lord Hanuman. It is located in the town of Paritala, near Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh. The height of this standing idol is 135 feet. This idol was installed on 22 June 2003.

Thiruvalluvar Statue

This statue is dedicated to Tamil poet and philosopher Valluvar, author of the Tirukkural, an ancient Tamil work on Dharma and morality.The 41-meter tall statue is located near Kanyakumari.

Buddha statue in Park of Ravangla

Buddha Park of Ravangla,  is situated in the South Sikkim district of the Indian state of Sikkim. The park showcases a 40 m high statue of the Buddha. This statue was built to mark the 2550thbirth anniversary of Buddha.

Statue of Padmasambhava

Padmasambhava literally means born from the lotus.  Padmasambhava was a sage in India. He played an important instrumental role in propagating Buddhism to Bhutan and Tibet during the 8th century. There he is also known as Guru Rinpoche or Lopo Rinpoche. The statue of Padmasambhava is one of the largest sculptures located near the famous Rewalsar lake in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. The height of the Padmasambhava statue is 123 feet or 37.5 m.

Dhyana Buddha Statue

Dhyana Buddha Statue is a huge statue of Lord Buddha situated in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh. It is among the tallest statues of Buddha. The sitting statue touches the sky with a height of 125 feet.

Lord Murudeshwara

The huge idol of Lord Shiva is located in the city of Murudeshwar in Uttara Kannada district in the state of Karnataka. The height of this statue is 121feet or 37 m.  This is a very famous temple.  Murudeshwar beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Karnataka. This place is an ideal amalgamation of religion and natural beauty.

Adiyogi Shiva Statue

Enveloped in lush green farms at the foothills of the Velliangiri Mountains in the Western Ghats, Adiyogi Shiva Statue is the world’s biggest bust statue dedicated to the famous Hindu deity Shiva. The statue is situated at Isha Yoga Complex in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.The sculpture dedicated to Shiva is 112 feet high.

Statue of Hanuman, Shimla

This idol is located on the Jakhu hill near Shimla in Himachal Pradesh. The height of this idol is 108 feet. Shimla is a major tourist attraction with a giant Hanuman statue, snow-clad peaks, sightseeing and picturesque valleys. This statue was installed in the year 2010. Tourists can also enjoy breathtaking views of sunrise and sunset from here.
