The Oscar Award is the most prestigious in the field of films. The official name of this award is Academy Award of Merit’. Hundreds of films have been nominated for this award every year. Most of them win one or two awards and some won a few more. But in the long history of these awards, so far only 32 films have won 5 or more awards at a time. Although many Oscar-winning films have been forgotten, some of them leave their mark forever. Here are the 7 films that have won the most Academy Awards so far.

Ben-Hur (1959)

William Wyler’s period drama film is among the films that won the maximum number of Oscars. Released in 1959, the film also won 11 awards during that time, including Best Director, Art-Direction, Cinematography. Charlton Heston won the Best Actor Award from the film.

 James Cameron’s film Titanic is the epitome of romantic film. The film made a lot of headlines around the world.  The film’s lead stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet became worldwide stars overnight. The film had already won several awards before the Oscars. The film won 11 awards at the 70th Academy Awards.

The Lord of the Ring: The Return of the King (2003)

In 2004, Peter Jackson’s film The Lord of the Ring: The Return of the King won the Academy Award for Best Film.  The film also won 11 Oscars at the 76th Academy Award Ceremony. Besides, Best film award, the movie earned the award in Best Director and VFX category as well.

West Side Story (1961)

 Directed by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins, the film ‘West Side Story’ was a musical film. The film is based on William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet. The film was a blockbuster of its time.This big hit won 10 awards in the 34th Academy Award ceremony.

The English Patient (1996)

The romantic film ‘TheEnglish Patient directed by Anthony Minghella, was nominated for 12 categoriesin Academy Awards, in which it won 9 Oscars. The film also won this award for Best Costume Design and Cinematography.

Gigi (1958)

Vincente Minnelli’s film ‘Gigi’ was a musical comedy. The film holds 9 Academy awards.  ‘Gigi’ was voted Best Film at the Oscars. Along with this, the film received Oscar awards in the category of Art Direction, Costume Designer Original Score.

The Last Emperor (1987)

The film ‘The Last Emperor’ directed by Bernardo Bertolucci, was released in 1987. The film is based on the life of the last emperor of China, King Puyi. The film won 9 awards at the 60th Academy Awards. This biographical drama also bagged the award for Art Direction.
