Let’s See Some Early Predictions of Coronavirus

by Aditi

The world is not new to the spread of epidemics and Pandemics, the influenza pandemic of 1918 wiped out more the 50 million people. There were several plague outbreaks also which killed millions throughout the world. These catastrophic events many times inspire writers to write upon these events. So many writers, movies and eminent persons predicted a Pandemic outbreak like present Coronavirus spread. Some of these predictions seem very generalized one but some are so close that they will force you to think that was writer able to see the future? In this article, we will share some of these predictions about this ongoing COVID-19 spread.

The Eyes of Darkness

the eyes

The first in our list is the book ‘ The Eyes of Darkness’, written by Dean Koontz, which was published in 1981. This book recently baffled netizens because it predicted nearly accurate about COVID-19 in 1981 itself. The book by Dean Koontz says “A Chinese scientist named Li Chen defected to the United States, carrying a diskette record of China’s most important and dangerous new biological weapon in a decade,” this bioweapon is named as Wuhan-400 in this novel which causes respiratory disorder and leads to death.

But how far this prediction is true? Well, if we go by facts then it is clearly a fiction and nothing resembles in Wuhan-400 and COVID-19, as the fatality rate in the novel is 100%, whereas the fatality rate of COVID-19 is only 4-5 percent, also in the novel the virus disappears after the death of carrier but the Coronavirus spread from person to person. So this only is only close to those conspiracy theories which believe that COVID-19 is a lab originated bio weapon.

End of Days: Predictions and Prophecies About the End of the World

sylvia brown

The second in our list of predictions is the book by psychic Sylvia Browne, this book was published in 2008, in her book Sylvia wrote “In around 2020 a severe pneumonia-like illness will spread throughout the globe, attacking the lungs and the bronchial tubes and resisting all known treatments,” . “Almost more baffling than the illness itself will be the fact that it will suddenly vanish as quickly as it arrived, attack again ten years later, and then disappear completely.”

If we talk about the timeline and symptoms, Sylvia was very close to present COVID-19, but she at the same time also said that this will disappear quickly, which is not in the case of COVID-19, it seems more persistent. Also in the same book, she did some other prophecies which later proved wrong.

Les Prophéties

In 1555, Michel de Nostredame, popularly known as Nostradamus, published a collection of thousand prophetic and poetic quatrains. Out of these thousands, one quatrains say “From the vain enterprise honor and undue complaint,
Boats tossed about among the Latins, cold, hunger, waves,
Not far from the Tiber the land stained with blood,
And diverse plagues will be upon mankind.” Here the Tiber symbolize Italy as it is a river in Italy. Another prophecy say ‘The sloping park, great calamity,
Through the Lands of the West and Lombardy
The fire in the ship, plague, and captivity;
Mercury in Sagittarius, Saturn fading”.  Here people linked plague to Coronavirus and captivity to lockdown.

But these are purely speculations nothing can be clearly concluded from such prophecies.

Contagion

contagion

This movie of 2011, directed by Steven Soderbergh, depicts how a disease named MEV-1 becomes Pandemic, which emerged in China. The virus transmitted initially from Bats to pigs and later become zoonotic. The fatality rate was 20 percent in the movie and also movie shows how it spread by shaking hands, which is also in the case of current COVID-19. The movie also shows the menace of myths and misinformation that spreads through technology. This movie is so close to the present situation of the world.

Robert G. Webster

flu hunter

The famous virologist in his book mentioned about a possible upcoming pandemic.  In his book Flu Hunter: Unlocking the secrets of a virus,” Webster questioned whether another deadly, disruptive pandemic is possible. “The answer is yes: it is not only possible, it is just a matter of time. Millions of people could die before such a pandemic is controlled or modified. Nature will eventually again challenge mankind with an equivalent of the 1918 influenza virus,” “We need to be prepared.” He wrote.
