Amazon Is Acquiring MGM; Prime Video Will Get Over 4000 Classical Movies

Amazon has finalized a deal with Hollywood iconic film production house MGM. On May 26, Amazon announced this agreement with MGM. In the information revealed by the company, it has been told that Amazon has spent $8.45 billion, or about 614 billion rupees to buy MGM.

The American entertainment industry was talking about this possible deal for the last few days, which has now been confirmed. After this deal, all of MGM’s movies and TV content will be available on Amazon Prime Video. MGM has a long list of over 4000 movies and 17000 TV shows.

MGM has a long history in the US entertainment industry

MGM or Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studios Inc. was established on 17 April 1924. The studio has produced many classic and successful films, including some masterpieces like James Bond series films, 12 Angry Men, Basic Instinct series, Rocky, The Silence of the Lambs, Legally Blonde, Moonstruck, The Pink Panther, The Magnificent Seven and Tomb Raider

Besides, some blockbuster movies, MGM also produced popular TV shows like Fargo, The Handmaid’s Tale and Viking. According to Mike Hopkins, Senior Vice President of Prime Video and Amazon Studios, all of these films and shows have won 180 Academy Awards and 100 Emmy Awards.

This deal will enrich Prime Video’s content

Inking of this deal by Amazon will directly benefit the consumers of Prime Video, who will now get to see the latest Hollywood movies on Prime. Despite this deal, Amazon will continue to help MGM in the production of films and shows. Kevin Ulrich, chairman of MGM’s Board of Directors, expressed his happiness over the deal, saying he was proud of MGM’s Lion, which has surpassed Hollywood’s Golden Age. The journey of stories will continue.

Amazon is expanding in entertainment, including India

 Amazon Studios has also made a foray into film production in India this year. Amazon Studios is co-producing Akshay Kumar’s film Ram Setu. The film is directed by Abhishek Sharma, who has directed popular films like Tere Bin Laden and Parmanu.

Ram Setu is an action-adventure drama based on the exploration of the roots of India’s cultural and historical heritage. Besides Akshay Kumar, Jacqueline Fernandez and Nusrat Bharucha are in the centre role. Ram Setu will hit theatres next year, after which it will be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.
