  • Eminent lawyer Mukul Rohatgi will return as Attorney General of India. He is expected to begin his second term as the country’s top judicial official from October 1. The term of current Attorney General K.K. Venugopal ends on September 30, 2022. Venugopal, 91, was named the country’s top lawyer on June 30, 2017. Venugopal only assumed the post after Mukul Rohatgi stepped down as attorney general in 2017.
  • Many of calling and messaging apps, including WhatsApp, Google Duo, Telegram, and others, are about to fall under the jurisdiction of telecom legislation. The administration has put out a draught bill in this regard. It suggests including over-the-top (OTT) telecom services, which differ from standard telecom services and utilise the Internet, in the definition of telecom services. Numerous similar proposals have been made by the government in the Draft Telecommunications Bill 2022, which will significantly alter the telecom legislation.

  • Now, the number of candidates has started to increase for the election of the President of the National Assembly. Previously, it appeared that there would be an agreement on Rahul Gandhi’s name, but now the names of a former minister and a former union minister also appear amid apart from Shashi Tharoor and Ashok Gehlot. These include former CM Digvijay Singh of Madhya Pradesh and former Union Minister Manish Tewari.
  • To give boost to natural farming, center is all set to roll-out a new scheme named PM-PRANAM. This program aims to discourage the use of chemical fertilizers and promote sustainable agricultural practices. Under this program, states that use less chemical fertilizers in a given year than they averaged over the past three years would be encouraged. States will receive 50% of the fertilizer subsidy by using less fertilizer. It should be noted that farmers mainly rely on fertilizers such as urea, diammonium phosphate (DAP) and potassium salt (MOP) to increase yields.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the newly built corridor of Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain on October 11. The works of the Mahakal Corridor are being carried out in two phases in which around Rs 750 crore is being spent. Around Rs 350 crore was spent on the first phase. The corridor of the Mahakal temple was built on an area of ​​about 900 meters. The size of the corridor under construction in Ujjain is about 4 times larger than that of the Kashi Vishwanath temple.

  • Cheetahs have finally made a comeback to India, where they had vanished more than 70 years prior. On Saturday, eight cheetahs from Namibia arrived in India. The eight animals were released as part of a bigger strategy to relocate the cats to their former habitat. Three adult male leopards and five mature female leopards from Namibia were among the group who travelled to Kuno.
  • The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) recently raided PFI sites in 13 states including Tamil Nadu, Kerala. More than 100 people were arrested in the raids. The states where the NIA has carried out raids include Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Assam, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.   •  Shares of the country’s largest public sector bank, State Bank of India (SBI), hit a 52-week high at Rs 574.75 crore. With this, the bank’s market capitalization surpassed Rs 5 lakh crore. SBI is the third bank in the country to enter the 5 crore market cap club. Previously, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank had achieved this feat. SBI ranks seventh in the list of top 10 market capitalization stocks. Other Indian companies include Reliance Industries, TCS, Infosys, HUL, LIC and HDFC.
  • Popular comedian Raju Srivastava passed away on Wednesday, September 21 after 41 days in the hospital. The 58-year-old comedian suffered a heart attack on August 10 while training at a gymnasium in Delhi. He was taken to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi and underwent angioplasty. Since then, he has been on a ventilator and never regained consciousness. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and other senior leaders mourned the passing of the comedian king.
