  • New Zealand’s Ajaz Patel became the third cricketer to take all 10 wickets in an innings. The left-arm bowler conceded 119 runs in 47.5 overs. In 1956, England bowler Jim Laker took 10 wickets in an innings against Australia and decades later, India’s Anil Kumble also achieved the incredible feat against Pakistan in 1999.
  • Argentina showed a very good game and has beaten six-time champion German team 4-2 and won the title after 16 years at the Men’s Hockey Junior World Cup at the Kalinga Stadium. Argentina became the only third team after Germany and India to win a junior hockey WC title. Defending champions India finished fourth in the Junior Hockey World Cup 2021 after losing 1-3 to France in the third-place match.
  • Viktor Axelsen of Denmark and Tai Tzu-ying of Taipei, China were adjudged the men’s and women’s players of the year 2021 respectively by the Badminton World Federation (BWF). Viktor Axelsen is the Olympic champion and Tai Tzu-Ying is the Tokyo Games, silver medalist.  
  • Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton (Britain) has beaten Max Verstappen (Netherlands) in the inaugural edition of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix  30 km in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Reema Juffali has been appointed as an ambassador for the first edition of the Saudi Grand Prix under the Formula 1 World Championship. 
  • The Davis Cup 2021 was won by the Russian Tennis Federation with a 2-0 lead over Croatia in the Davis Cup final in Madrid.  Medvedev defeated Marin Cilic in the second singles match to give Russia an unassailable 2-0 lead over Croatia and win their first Davis Cup title since 2006. The Russian team competed in the midst of an ongoing doping suspension in international sport.

  • PV Sindhu, world number 7, won silver at the 2021 Badminton World Federation BWF World Tour Finals, officially known as the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals 2021. Defending world champion PV Sindhu has won the BWF World Tour Finals in 2018 and has become the only Indian to achieve the feat. 
  • The BCCI has replaced Virat Kohli with Rohit Sharma as the new captain of the ODI team. The board had given Kohli an ultimatum of 48 hours to resign from the captaincy of the ODIs.  When there was no response, the board itself removed him from this post. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly’s clarification has come amidst the reaction coming on such removal of the country’s number four most successful ODI captain.
  • Ravindra Jadeja, who did not play the last Test match against New Zealand, has lost two places. He has slipped to the fourth position in the ranking of all-rounders. On the other hand, Ashwin and Ben Stokes have gained a place each. Ashwin has reached number 2. At the same time, Stokes is in third place. Ashwin took a total of 14 wickets in the recently concluded Test series against New Zealand.
  • Team India won the series against New Zealand by securing the biggest win in Tests. India beat New Zealand by 372 runs in Mumbai Test. This is India’s biggest win in terms of runs.  The man of the match of this Test was Mayank Agarwal, who scored 150 runs in the first innings and 62 runs in the second innings. Man of the Series was adjudged R Ashwin, who took 14 wickets and scored 70 runs. This was the 39th victory of Virat Kohli as Test captain.  This was India’s 14th consecutive series win on home soil.

  • After a spectacular victory in the Mumbai Test, Team India has once again reached the first position in the Test rankings by overtaking New Zealand.  India currently has 124 points, while the Kiwi team has slipped to second place with 121 points.
