  • Olympic silver medalist weightlifter, Mirabai Chanu won the third edition of BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year Award 2021. Chanu created history last year when she became the first Indian weightlifter to win a silver medal at the Summer Olympics. Chanu won a gold medal in the 48kg category at the 2017 World Championships Anaheim followed by a gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
  • India has been declared the winner of the third edition of the SAFF U-18 Women’s Football Championship. The 2022 edition of the international football competition for the women’s under-18 national teams was held at JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur in Jharkhand.
  • Max Verstappen has won the Formula One 2022 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit in Saudi Arabia. Charles Leclerc (Ferrari-Monaco) finished second and Carlos Sainz Jr (Ferrari-Spain) third. It was the second edition of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and the second round of the 2022 Formula One World Championship.  Lewis Hamilton managed to get a point on the board after finishing 10th.
  • World number one Australian tennis player Ashleigh Barty has announced her retirement from tennis at the age of 25. She has won three Grand Slam singles titles – French Open in 2019, Wimbledon in 2021 and Australian Open in 2022. Apart from playing tennis, she has also played semi-professional cricket during her break from tennis between 2014-2016.
  • Hyderabad FC won their maiden Indian Super League title by defeating Kerala Blasters in a penalty shoot-out at the summit. Goalkeeper Laxmikant Kattimani saved three brilliant goals.  Hyderabad beat Kerala 3-1 in a shootout after the match ended 1-1 in regulation and extra time. Joao Victor, Khasa Kamara and Halicharan Narzari scored for Hyderabad, while only Ayush Adhikari scored in the shoot-out, leading Kerala to suffer a third defeat in the final.
  • Indian cueist Pankaj Advani won his eighth title at the 19th Asian 100 up Billiards Championship 2022 by defeating Dhruv Sitwala. Overall, this was Advani’s 24th international title and 8th Asian crown. Earlier, Advani faced a tough challenge from Myanmar’s Pauk Sa to secure a place in the final.
  • The England team has reached the final of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.  In the second semi-final match played in Christchurch, England defeated South Africa by 137 runs to reach the final.  With this, the African team has once again missed out on a place in the final.  The South African team has not reached the finals of T20 and ODI in men’s and women’s categories till date. Now,  England will face Australia in the final. Australia has already made it to the final after beating West Indies.

  • For the first time, skiers from across the country will showcase their talent at the skiing slopes of Lahaul in Kullu, Himachal. The National Ski and Snow Board Championship will be held from April 2 to 4 in association with the Government of Himachal Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh Winter Games Association. About 150 participants from across the country will participate in the Ski and Snow Board Championship to be held from April 2 to 4. The National Invitational Championship of Skiing and Snow Board is being organized for the first time in the cold desert Lahaul Valley.
  • Indian all-rounder R Ashwin has gained a place in the ICC Test rankings released. He has moved up to the second position, while Ravindra Jadeja remains on top as before. At the same time, he remains at the second position in the bowlers’ list as before, whhile Pat Cummins is intact at the top. In the list of batsmen, captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are in eighth and tenth place as before. Australian batsman Marnus Labuschagne is still at the top.  
  • According to the Celebrity Brand Valuation Report 2021 titled “Digital Acceleration 2.0” released by Duff & Phelps (Now Kroll), Indian cricketer Virat Kohli has been ranked as the Most Valuable Celebrity for the 5th consecutive time in India. The brand value of Virat Kohli has dropped from USD 237.7 million in 2020 to USD 185.7 million in 2021.
