Two Men Open Fire at Jamia University, Third Incident Reported in the Past Four Days

The terror in the students of Jamia University has still not come to an end. On Sunday, unidentified men opened fire near Jamia University. This was the third such incident in the past four days. Previously, on Thursday, a student was injured in an open fire by a minor who aimed to fire the anti-CAA protesters marching towards Rajghat in Delhi. In another incident, a 25-year-old fired two rounds in the air in Shaheen Bagh in Jamia Nagar. One student was injured in the later incident.

F.I.R lodged against the unidentified men

An F.I.R has been lodged under the charges of attempt to murder against two unidentified men. According to the reports from Jamia Coordination Committee, two unidentified men opened fire outside the Gate No.5 of Jamia Milia Islamia University on Sunday night. The committee added that this was the third incident of firing in Delhi NCR in the past four days.

Consequent statements by the committee

After the incident, there was a statement that was issued by the committee. The statement said that no casualties were reported in the incident outside the campus. The committee also added that a group of students and alumni of the University were protesting against the citizenship Amendment Act has reported that the attackers had been on a red scooter whose vehicle number is 1532 or 1534. One of the attackers was wearing a red jacket. This has given a clue to the police to identify the attackers.

Incident triggered the panic in the area

Open fire incident on Sunday night near Jamia University has created panic in the area. The police reached the spot right after the incident was reported but the angry students chased away the police. In the revert of this incident, a number of students of the university gathered outside the campus and raised slogans against the Delhi police. Some of the students also questioned about their security and safety in Delhi. The students led a march to Jamia Nagar police station where they demanded to register an F.I.R against the unidentified men.

Police came into action with quick effect

Considering to the demand of the students regarding the registration of an F.I.R, the senior police official said that an F.I.R has been registered against two unidentified men under the charges for an attempt to murder. The F.I.R has been registered under IPC Section 307 (Attempt to murder) and Section 27 of the Arms Act (Punishment for using arms). A team of police is now on the move toward the Gate No 5 and 7 of Jamia University to collect the CCTV footage of the entire incident of open firing. This will help the police to take suitable actions in respect of the F.I.R lodged by the students against unidentified men.

The protest against CAA will continue

There are students who took the matter on social media to raise their voice while many continued to protest on the roads of Delhi. Shezad Ahmed, a student and resident of Jamia University said, “We are not going to be deterred by such incidents. We will continue with our protest.” Similar notations can be seen on social media posts related to this incident which shows the strong resistance for CAA.
