  • The Union Cabinet has approved the proposal to increase the minimum age of marriage for women from 18 to 21. At present, the minimum age of marriage for men is 21 years but for women, it is 18 years. The government will now consider amending the Child Marriage Prohibition Act, Special Marriage Act and Hindu Marriage Act to implement the move. This move will bring an opportunity to the girl students to study further. They will be able to enjoy their freedom. They will also get better employment opportunities.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone of Ganga Expressway in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh. On this occasion, PM Modi at Railway Ground addressed a rally. Once completed, it will become the longest expressway of Uttar Pradesh. It will connect the western and eastern regions of the state. It starts in Meerut and ends at Prayagraj. Ganga Expressway is a 594 km long expressway. It will be built at a cost of over Rs.36,200 crore. It will pass through 12 districts of Uttar Pradesh, viz. Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj. Moreover, a 35-km-long runway will also be built for emergency take-off and landing of Air Force aircraft on the expressway in Shahjahanpur.

  • In Punjab’s Ludhiana on Thursday, one person died in an explosion inside the court premises. Four people are also reported to have been seriously injured in the blast.  The cause of the explosion is being ascertained. The information received, the blast took place in the washroom of the Ludhiana court. The police team has reached the spot. As of now, the blast site is under the scanner of central agencies.
  •  NITI Aayog has released the fourth health index. According to this, Kerala is at the top in terms of health facilities among the big states, while Uttar Pradesh is in the last position. This is the fourth time in a row that Kerala is the best performer in terms of overall performance. At the same time, UP has topped in terms of improvement in health facilities compared to 2018-19. According to the report released by the government’s think tank, Tamil Nadu ranks second and Telangana third in terms of health performance. However, in terms of incremental performance, Kerala ranks 12th while Tamil Nadu ranks 8th.

  • The demand to repeal the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) is gaining momentum in Nagaland. This month on 4-5 December, an unfortunate incident took place in the Mon district of Nagaland. The army opened fire on the workers, mistaking them as terrorists, returning from the mine on suspicion of militants. 
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the Srirenukaji 40 MW dam project pending for three decades at Srirenukaji in district Sirmaur. A large screen was arranged at the Dadahu office of the Srirenukaji Dam Project to show the event live to the people of the area. Arrangements were made in the courtyard of the dam office to seat around 1000 people.  Where the officers of all the departments of district Sirmaur and the people of the area were present. The target of construction work of Srirenukaji Dam has been kept for 6 years.  With the construction of this dam, a 22 km long lake will be formed. It will promote adventure tourism as well as employment. The tourism department has prepared a blueprint for many adventure sports for the tourists in the 22 km long lake. With the construction of Sri Renukaji Dam, where the national capital of Delhi will get 23 cusecs of water per second. The same water will be available for irrigation in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a vaccine drive for children aged 15 to 18 years from January 3 regarding the new variant of Corona, Omicron. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not mentioned the name of the vaccine. However, DCGI has approved the COVAXIN vaccine for children. This vaccine can be given to a child of 12 to 18 years in case of emergency. It has been insisted that only children above 12 years of age should be given the vaccine. 
  •  The imminent danger of the third wave of corona infection is increasing day by day. In the last 24 hours, 6,531 cases of infection have been reported across the country. 315 people have died and 7,091 were cured. There are now 75,841 active cases of corona in the country. At the same time, the cases of the new variant have increased to 578. So far, the highest number of 142 cases of Omicron has been found in Delhi. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs has directed all the states and union territories of the country to strictly follow the rules of Corona by 31 January 2022.  Earlier, on December 21, the Central Government had issued necessary guidelines to all the states and union territories to fight the battle against Corona.

  • After serving the Indian Navy for 32 years, INS Khukri decommissioned on Thursday after making 30 rounds of the world. It was the first indigenously built missile corvette ship. Its farewell ceremony was held in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
  • The Reserve Bank of India has extended the deadline for card-on-file (CoF) tokenization by 6 months i.e. till June 30, 2022. Earlier this deadline was fixed till December 31, 2021. In March 2020, RBI had issued guidelines for the regulation of payment aggregators and payment gateways, barring payment aggregators and merchants from storing customer card credentials within their databases or servers with effect from June 30, 2021. In September 2021, RBI expanded the scope of tokenization from device-based tokenization to CoF tokenization services and barred merchants from storing actual card data during online transactions.  RBI has fixed January 1, 2022, as the deadline for card tokenization.
