World Happiness Index 2021: India Ranks 139 In The Index, Finland At The Top

March 20 is celebrated as World Happiness Day. On the eve of this day, the World Happiness Index 2021 report has been released. The report for India does not bring happy news. While Finland has made it to the top of the list of happy countries for the fourth consecutive time in this report, India has made it to the top list of unhappy countries.

The World Happiness Report 2021 was released on Friday by the United Nations. In this, India got 139th rank out of 149 countries. The World Happiness Report 2021 has been released by the United Nations Sustainable Development Measures Network. This year report focuses on the impact of COVID-19 on people.

A brief about this report

This report is published every year by the Sustainable Development Solution Network- SDSN. Publication of the Global Happiness Report began in the year 2012. Its eighth edition has been published this year.

The index is prepared by considering various indicatorslike GDP per capita, prosperity, social security to the person,the expectation of healthy life, social concerns, personal freedom, corruption and generosity.

India ranked 139 on the world happiness list

According to the report, India has been ranked at 139th position in the world happiness list whereas, in the year 2019, India was ranked 140th. “People were talked face-to-face and over the phone to take samples for India,” the statement said. However, the number of people who took face to face survey was less than those who gave on phone.

Neighbouring countries performed better

Finland topped the list of the world’s happiest countries. It is followed by Iceland, Denmark, Switzerland, Netherlands, Sweden, Germany and Norway.  According to the report, Pakistan is ranked 105thon the list, while Bangladesh and China are ranked 101st and 84th respectively.

Most Unhappy countries

The people of war-torn Afghanistan are most unhappy with their lives. It is followed by Zimbabwe (148th), Rwanda (147th), Botswana (146) and Lesotho (145th).
