Re-polling in two booths of Arunachal Pradesh, orders EC

Recently, the Election Commission of India ordered the re-elections to take place in two polling booths for two assembly constituencies in the Arunachal Pradesh. The re-elections will take place on May 21. The election stations in question are  Gimba in Tali assembly constituency which falls under Kra Daadi district and Nampe in Koloriang assembly constituency under Kurung Kumey district.

Re-polling due to complaints of malpractice

On Saturday, the election commission ordered the re-election in two polling stations of Arunachal Pradesh. The statement given by the election officials stated, “The decision to conduct re-polling in the two booths was taken following complaints of electoral malpractices in the two polling booths and after recommendation of a team of the poll panel, which met representatives of different political parties here on May 14 last.”

Re-polling to take place on May 21

Once the decision was made, the four officials from election commission went to Tali and Palin assembly constituencies to check the ground situation. After that, the deputy chief electoral officer released an official notification stating that the re-polling will take place on May 21 from 6 am to 2 pm.

The released notification also stated that the “polling parties shall move from the assembly constituency headquarters or district headquarters depending upon where out of these two places, the electronic voting machines (EVMs) and other poll materials are available for conducting these fresh polls. Each polling party shall be headed by at least an assistant registering officer who shall also function as the presiding officer of the respective polling station for these re-polls.”

EC orders to set up election candidates far from polling booths

The notification released by the Election Commission also stated that the candidates and members of polling party will be taken as far as possible to ensure the smooth working of the re-polling. Fresh security officials and fresh team conducting the polling will be placed.
