  • Top Indian swimmer Sajan Prakash won the men’s 200m butterfly gold medal at the Danish Open Swimming Meet in Copenhagen, Denmark. Participating in his first international competition this year, Prakash stopped the clock at 1.59.27 to stand on the podium. Vedant Madhavan, 16, won a silver medal in the men’s 1500m freestyle event, son of actor R Madhavan, who finished second with a time of 15.57.86 in the 10-swimmer final. He won a bronze medal at the Latvia Open in March 2021 and also impressed at the Junior National Aquatic Championships last year, winning seven medals – four silver and three bronze.
  • Tamil Nadu defeated defending champions Punjab 87-69 to clinch the men’s title in the final of the 71st Senior National Basketball Championship on Sunday. In the women’s section, Railways won the title by defeating Telangana 131-82 with Poonam Chaturvedi’s 26 points.
  • Indian shuttler Mithun Manjunath has won silver medal in men’s singles at the badminton tournament Orleans Masters 2022. The tournament was held in Orléans, France from 29 March to 3 April 2022. Playing in his maiden BWF final, 79th ranked Indian shuttler Mithun Manjunath lost 11-21, 19-21 to world number 32 Frenchman Toma Junior Popov.

  • 16-year-old chess sensation R Praggnanandhaa has won the prestigious Reykjavik Open chess tournament in Reykjavik, Iceland. In the final played between two Indian players, it was R Pragyanand who won the competition by defeating compatriot GM D Gukesh in the final round. The Indian youngster scored 7½/9 and was half a point ahead. R Pragyananand also recorded four other victories, including a win over American Abhimanyu Mishra, who became the youngest Grandmaster last year at the age of 12 years and four months.
  • In a departure from the traditional single host city approach, the Commonwealth Games will be held in Victoria in 2026, with most events organized by regional centers in the state. In March 2026, the Games will be held in several cities and regional centers around Australia, including Melbourne, Geelong, Bendigo, Ballarat and Gippsland, each with its own athlete village. The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) confirmed that the opening ceremony will be held at the famous 100,000-seat Melbourne Cricket Ground. The announcement was made, following a special consultation session between the CGF, Commonwealth Games Australia (CGAus) and Victoria.
  • India women’s hockey team’s dream of winning the Junior World Cup was shattered. The Indian team lost 0-3 to three-time champions Netherlands in the semi-finals played on Sunday. India’s best performance is to win the bronze medal, which it did in 2013.
  • Pakistan captain Babar Azam was named the ICC Player of the Month for March. Apart from Babar, Australia’s opener Rachel Haynes was successful in winning this award in the women’s category. Babar won the award for his brilliant performance in the series against Australia.
  • BCCI secretary Jay Shah has been appointed as the member board representative to the ICC Cricket Committee, while Mahela Jayawardene has been reappointed as the former player representative.  Other important decisions were also taken in the ICC Board meeting held in Dubai. The CEC agreed, noting a recent suggestion by the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee, that when travel limits are relaxed, more neutral match officials should be used, building on the success of the employment of local umpires.

  • The US and West Indies will host the T20 World Cup to be held in 2024.  This decision has been taken in the meeting of the International Cricket Council on Sunday. For the first time, 20 teams will participate. America and West Indies will get direct entry due to being host countries.  America’s team will play in the World Cup for the first time in any format of cricket. According to media reports, 20 teams will participate in the T20 World Cup to be held in West Indies and America in 2024. Of these, 12 teams will get direct entry. In this, direct entry will be given to the top-8 teams of the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia this year. USA and West Indies will get direct entry as they are hosts. Whereas the remaining two teams will be decided on the basis of the top ranking teams till November 14 this year.
  • Charles Leclerc has won the Formula One (F1) 2022 Australian Grand Prix held in Melbourne, Victoria on 10 April 2022. It was the third round of the 2022 Formula One World Championship. Sergio Pérez (Red Bull Racing-RBPT – Mexico) finished second and George Russell (Mercedes – Britain) got third place.
