Bollywood is a land of controversies and unsolved mysteries. People have been obsessed with Bollywood and the mysterious lives of the actors. The two powerful clans of the Bollywood fraternity are- Bachchans and Kapoors. They were supposed to join hands when the engagement of Abhishek Bachchan and Karishma Kapoor was announced on the 60th Birthday of Amitabh Bachchan. Announcement of the engagement was done with a fanfare. Karishma had said that it feels wonderful to be a part of Bachchan’s family. However, after few months the engagement was called off.

Mysterious reason for calling off the engagement
When the engagement was called off, neither Bachchans nor Kapoors were interested to talk about the reason for parting the couple. Bachchans and Kapoors are related in the first place as Shweta Nanda, daughter of Amitabh Bachchan, is married to the Nikhil Nanda, who is the grandson of Raj Kapoor. They got married in 1997 and apparently Abhishek and Karishma started dating each other. The couple was happy and in much love however, their relationship came into limelight only after 5years of dating. Thus, everybody could just talk about other wedding bells in their families.

Speculated reason for an unsuccessful engagement
Although the families kept quiet about the reason for calling off the engagement but the Bollywood industry had guessed the reason. According to the sources, mother of Karishma Kapoor-Babita, was the reason for calling off the engagement. Babhita had undergone the tough phase of life after getting separated from Randhir Kapoor (father of Karishma Kapoor). She very well knew the value of money and wanted stable and secure lives for her daughters. In 1990s when Karishma Kapoor was a superstar and brought many accolades to her table, Abhishek Bachchan was just the son of Amitabh Bachchan. Also, it was the time when Bachchan’s were undergoing the financial crisis.
Call it a fate or destiny
Over the years, the families had moved on but the mystery behind calling off the engagement of Abhishek and Karishma still remains unravelled. Later, Karishma Kapoor ended with becoming Sanjay Kapur’s 2nd Wife in 2003. However, the marriage didn’t last long and the couple got separated in 2010. On the other hand, Abhishek Bachchan got married to Aishwarya Rai, a successful model and actor, in 2007 and they are happily married today with one daughter, Aradhya.
