After India banned famous short video platform TikTok, several other countries are also contemplating on this. To fill the vacuum created by TikTok many other apps are coming forward. Following the same, Instagram has also launched a short video feature named Reels in India. Using this new feature user can create videos on the app, the feature also provides some creative filters and music to add with. This new feature is very similar to TikTok, it allows to create 15 seconds video with popular trends, songs and challenges.

“The product comes from the realisation that 45 per cent of videos on Instagram is 15 seconds or less. We also realised that stories are not the only place where they wanted to share these videos as they wanted them to stick on for longer and be distributed beyond their followers,” VP of Facebook, Shah said.

Reels also lets users create a video with added filters and music from the catalogue of Instagram. The videos will be shared on ‘Explore’ along with ‘Feed’ with followers. However, for now, Instagram is not planning to monetise it.

Before launching this in India, this was already being tested in Brazil, Germany and France. India is the fourth country to have this new feature.

To provide a huge collection of songs to users, Instagram has partnered with multiple music labels.

Here is how you can create and share video on Reels?

Reels option is visible on Instagram beside Story option.

To create a video, one needs to open the Instagram camera and tap the Reels. It will provide various other options like different music and audios from the Instagram catalogue ( or you can use your original voice), speed, effects,  and timer. You can also add some AR effects to make your video more creative and unique. When the recording is done, the user has to choose the audience, with whom the user wants to share the recorded Reel. Reels can be shared in the Explore section which can be viewed by everyone on the platform, unlike the Stories which are limited to followers only.
