Time magazine wrote about PM Modi, ‘The most necessary for democracy is not free elections.  It only shows who has got the most votes.  More important than this is the right of those who did not vote for the winner.  India has been the largest democracy in the world for over 7 decades.  India’s population of 1.3 billion includes Christians, Muslims, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and people of other religions.”

The editor further wrote “ Narendra Modi has put all these in doubt.  Although almost all the Prime Ministers of India came from a Hindu community with 80 per cent of the population, only the Modi government ruled in such a way that did not care about the rest. Elected at first with the popular promise of empowerment, his Hindu-nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party rejected not only excellence but also pluralism, particularly targeting India’s Muslims.  The Pandemic crisis became an excuse for strangulation. And the world’s most vibrant democracy has fallen into deep darkness.”

Bilkis

Bilkis, who became famous as ‘Dadi’ during the Shaheen Bagh movement, has also been included among the 100 most influential people in the world.  82-year-old  Bilkis came into the limelight when she drew attention against the Citizenship Amendment Act by sitting on a Protest in Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh movement.  According to media reports, She has emerged as the face of the Protest and belongs to Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh.  Her husband passed away about 10 years ago, who used to do farming.  Bilkis currently lives in Delhi with her daughters-in-law.
