Beautiful hair always enhances the beauty of our face.  This is the reason why women use a variety of hair products including shampoo, conditioner, hair gel, serum, hair oil for healthy hair.  These hair care products make hair strong and stylish.  But do you know, that these products contain harmful chemicals? Most of the hair care products available in the market, which comes in an attractive packing, are chemical-based.   People use these products to make their hair long, thick and soft. Till some extent, these products serve the purpose but at the same time, these products can damage your hair. There are some harmful chemicals present in these products.  Let’s know what harmful chemicals are present in shampoos and their side effects.


This is a type of preservative that does increase the shelf life of the product. Butylparaben, Propylparaben, and Methylparaben are some of the common parabens that are used in beauty products.  They enter the body through the skin and damage hormones and genes.  Some parabens cause other serious diseases including cancer.

 Alcohol is used in many hair care and beauty products.  Ethanol, SD alcohol 40, propyl, isopropyl, propanol are very common alcohols.  Alcohol makes hair dry and weak.


It is a kind of cleansing agent that helps in removing dirt.  It is also used in toilet cleaners, detergents, soaps, etc.  In addition, Sulfate is also used in shampoos.  It dries the scalp and kills the natural oil sebum.  Excess removal of sebum causes dryness and weakness of hair.  Sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium Laureth Sulfate are found in shampoos.


 Phthalates are used in most of the products to enhance the fragrance.  According to research, Phthalate can cause cancer, kidney and lung damage.  Apart from this, it also has an effect on reproductive systems.  Since this chemical is used for the fragrance in products, it can enter the body through the skin and breath.


 It is a chemical used in many beauty products which increases the life of these products. It is carcinogenic, which causes the risk of cancer and also it is a potential agent to cause asthma in humans.
